Singer Records with Jordanaires Holdrege Citizen 9/21/2006
FROM
THE STUDIO - Cindy Boehler, center, poses with members of
the Jordanaires. The famed singing group will join Boehler
in a concert at The Tassel in Holdrege on November 4.
Cindy
Boehler, now of Alma, has fulfilled a life long dream. "I
may never be rick or famous, but if I die tomorrow, I will
have done something I have wanted to do since I was a little
girl," said Boehler.
Her dream: Performing with the Jordanaires. Boehler recently
completed her first CD with the group and will perform in
concert with the group in Holdrege this November.
It all began when Boehler, after meeting and corresponding
with producer Steve Ivey over the internet, headed to Nashville
in March where she was signed on the spot. After seeing Boehler's
talent with lyrics, Ivey insisted she write three more songs
to go along with the three she had brought with her.
While picking out the remaining six songs from an old Patsy
Cline Gospel CD, Cindy mentioned to Ivey how much she had
always loved the Jordanaires who backed not only Patsy and
Elvis, but nearly every other country and pop group in the
'60's and '70's. Ivey offhandedly asked Boehler if she would
like to have the Jordanaires record with her on her CD.
"I thought he was kidding so I kind of smarted off to
him 'wouldn't we all like to have them record with us,' "
said Boehler.
When Ivey replied that they were good friends of his and it
would be no problem, Boehler was totally speechless.
"I think there may still be a dent in the floor where
my jaw hit when he told me that I would be recording with
the legendary Jordanaires," Boehler says.
On Boehler's third trip down, she got to do just that.
"It was undoubtedly the most overwhelming and emotional
trip of the five I made down to Nashville to complete the
CD. I had told my producer I was worried I would break into
tears as soon as they started singing in the studio. Well,
Ray Walker, one of the original Jordanaires was going to do
a solo on one of the songs and I made it about two measures
into rehearsal before the tears started. It was just such
an honor to sing with them and the stories they stand around
and tell of everyone they have worked with are just priceless."
It was when the Jordanaires mentioned that it had been many
years since they had been to Nebraska for a show that Boehler
went into action.
"I didn't hesitate to invite them and went right to work
when I got home from that trip to start organizing a concert
for the Jordanaires and myself," Boehler said. "These
guys tour all over the world and they were telling me that
they would come to Nebraska and help me release my CD. If
you wonder how famous these guys are, they have been inducted
into the Gospel, Country Music and Rockabilly Halls of Fame
. . . and they are coming to Holdrege to sing with me!"
The concert is scheduled for Saturday, November 4th at The
Tassel Performing Arts Center in Holdrege at 7:30 pm. Tickets
can be purchased by calling The Tassel at 308-995-2717 or
going online at thetassel.org.
Boehler who was raised in Axtell and now resides near Alma
has entertained thousands in this area over the past 20 or
so years with her Patsy Cline inspired vocals.
"I just want everybody to come out and see these guys.
They are still so good and I know everyone will enjoy the
evening listening to them sing as well as recount their experiences
of being in the recording industry for so many years,"
says Boehler.
Her Gospel/Blue Grass CD, Set It Free, will begin selling
on November 4th at the Tassel.
