After leaving Nashville the prior evening and driving all night,
I pulled off Interstate 70 to fuel up and get a cup of coffee.
So weary that I didn't even known what city I was in, I pulled
into In A Pinch convenience Store at 706 S.W. Fairlawn. Unfortunately,
when I went to get back into my truck, it was dead as a doornail.
Opening up the hood in the parking lot, I discovered that one
of my battery cable clamps had corroded and broken clean away
from the battery. While I was standing there wondering what
to do, a gentleman who was leaving stopped to ask if I needed
help. Within minutes, he was assisted by several more kind men
who I can only guess were the morning coffee group at the store.
These fine gentlemen quickly went into action, sending one for
parts while the others cleaned up my battery and terminals.
Not only did they fix my battery, but they wouldn't allow me
to pay for the parts they had gone after.
None of them wanted to give me their names, but I persisted
until I got the names of some of these fine "Guardian angels."
If you are any measure of the kind of folks who inhabit Topeka,
Kan., you have a very fine city! Sincerely,
Cindy
